LEXINGTON –There haven’t been many games between Kentucky and Tennessee over the last 3 decades that have added up to anything more than simply ‘pride’ games for the Wildcats.
This year is different. The Cats are playing for a birth in a post-season bowl game. As far as ESPN.com is concerned the game is over, Tennessee has won and are headed to the Belk Bowl.
The Belk Bowl?
You know what? Most Kentucky Football fans wouldn’t say ‘the Belk Bowl?’ It would look more like ‘the Belk Bowl!’ As a matter of fact, any post-season bowl will due…we accept….no reason to send your ‘bowl committee people’ to “woo” the powers that be at UK athletics…..we’ll take it!
Many fans, yours truly included, didn’t expect to have this whole ‘bowl’ conversation until next year anyway. And if Coach Stoops and crew continue their recruiting tear, the Cats may be playing in a ‘name-recognizable’ bowl game next year as well.
If Kentucky plans on winning in Knoxville tomorrow afternoon, it wouldn’t hurt to give Tennessee a healthy dose of Ryan Timmons and the rest of Kentucky’s talented receivers.
On a side note, raise your hand now if you thought that South Carolina would be 4-5 at this point and in danger of reaching the six-win plateau to appear in a bowl game?
No. 1 Mississippi State and No. 5 Alabama meet Saturday in Tuscaloosa and will probably determine the SEC team that will appear in the national title game. The guess here is MSU’s defense won’t be able to stop the Tide from scoring. My prediction:
Bama 31
MSU 21
As for the Cats in Knoxville, I am optimistically guessing:
Kentucky 33
Tennessee 28
